Blue and sperm whales, dolphins and turtles off Mirissa - the season runs November to April.
Mirissa is Sri Lanka's whale-watching capital. Between November and April the deep water just off the south coast draws blue whales - the largest animals on earth - along with sperm whales, Bryde's whales, spinner dolphins and turtles. Peak sightings are usually December to March.
Boats leave Mirissa Harbour early, around 7:00 AM, and trips usually last three to five hours. From Paradise Beach Club the harbour is just minutes away, so you can be first on the water. We can arrange your trip - see our whale-watching page or reservations.
Come back to the beach for breakfast and a swim, then explore Coconut Tree Hill or Secret Beach in the afternoon.
The best base for Mirissa - sea-view rooms and suites right on the beach, steps from the harbour and the town.
